Sweet Potatoes Gets New Designer, Karen Johnson

Berkeley, CACSweet Potatoes has hired Karen Johnson to be design director of it’s Two Turtle Doves Collection and it’s new 4-16 girls line – Totally Trixie. She will also spearhead the creation of an older girls collection for Marimekko, according to Josie Jurczenia, president and design director of the company. Karen has previously worked as design director for Eagle’s Eye Kids, Esprit Kids designer, and was one of the former owners of IYA.

            “Karen is really updating our 7-14 business and it’s looking really good,” Jurczenia said. “She brings a fresh perspective that’s junior inspired but tailored to fit the needs of that tween market. We’re very excited about having her as part of our team.” Karen’s first collections will premiere at the Aug market.
